Blava Christmas Market
A very cool thing about Bratislava is the Christmas Market. Lots of tiny booths selling all sorts of xmas crafts & gifts. The weather has been perfect and crowds of people go there everyday after work and the weekends. Lots of great food - cigánska pečienka (roasted pork with onion and mustard in a bun), pečená klobása (roasted sausage), mastný chleba s cibuľou (greased bread with onion), pagáče (salted buns), lokše - my favourite (rolled potato pancakes with various toppings/fillings - like cabbage or goose liver or fat), kapustnica (cabbage soup) And don't forget the wine: varené víno (mulled wine), and medovina (mead) and punč (alcoholic punch) The hot red wine (brewed with spices) is common in other markets (the Vienna xmas markets are great, too) but Slovakia has it's own specialty - hot white wine!
